Flotsam, Flotsan

A name for the goods which float upon the sea when cast overboard for the safety of the ship, or when a ship is sunk. Distinguished from “jet-sam” and “ligan.” Bract, llb. 2, c. 5; 5 Coke, 106; 1 Bl. Comm. 292
